Role of the Saskatchewan Mining Association (SMA):

  1. To inform members of existing laws, regulations and policies affecting the mining industry and the requirements for compliance with same and to make representations to the various federal and provincial agencies involved in regulatory and licensing processes which affect the mining industry.  SMA to act as a liaison and forum for consultation with appropriate agencies of government both provincial and federal government to assist and encourage the development of a safe, responsible and profitable mining industry.
  2. To advance the general welfare of the mining industry in the Province of Saskatchewan through the support and promotion of technical innovations in the fields of: health and safety standards; waste disposal; environmental protection; extractive metallurgy research and development.
  3. To undertake such public educational and informational activities as may enhance and encourage the well-being of the mining industry in Saskatchewan.
  4. To promote a co-operative approach within the mining industry in areas of involving overall socio-economic patterns in the province and in particular areas of the province affected by the mining industry, as for example, recruiting and training workers and promotion and strengthening of Saskatchewan service industries in support of mineral development.

To these ends the SMA co-operates closely with equivalent Associations in other Provinces, with the Mining Association of Canada, and Prospectors and Developers ssociation of Canada; and with Universities and Research organizations.

The SMA may be justly regarded as the voice of the Mining Industry in Saskatchewan.
