Rabbit Lake is the longest-operating uranium production facility in Saskatchewan and the second largest uranium milling operation in the world. The operation consists of a mill at Rabbit Lake and the underground Eagle Point mine, located 15 kilometers north of the mill site. It has been in opertion since December 1975 and more than 175 million pounds of U3O8 have been produced from five different orebodies. Cameco has received regulatory approval to process Cigar Lake uranium at the Rabbit Lake mill. Cigar Lake ore would receive initial processing at McClean Lake and about half of the uranium would be trucked in solution form to Rabbit Lake for final processing and packaging.
The mill has a nominal capacity of 12 million lbs. U3O8 (4,615 tonnes uranium).
3.6 million lbs. U3O8 (1,385 tonnes uranium) was produced in 2008 from the Eagle Point underground mine.
17.5 million lbs. U3O8 (6,731 tonnes uranium) with an average grade of 0.98% U3O8. Successful exploration expanded Rabbit Lake mineral reserves extending expected mine life to 2013.
Providing a foundation for growth through a safe, responsible mining industry.
